Halloween Yard Display Ideas: How to Plan a Front-Yard Scene

The best Halloween yards don't happen by accident. Here's how to plan a front-yard Halloween display step by step, so every piece you buy has a job.

Step 1: Sketch Your Yard Before You Shop

Step 3: Build Layers Around It

Once the star is in place, add supporting pieces in front of and around it. Think of it like a stage: tall in the back, medium in the middle, low in the front.

Step 4: Use Trees, Fences and Shrubs

Vertical space is the most overlooked part of a yard display. A bare tree or fence line can carry a lot of the mood.

Step 6: Light the Whole Scene

A display that looks amazing at 4 p.m. can vanish at 7 p.m. Walk out after dark and look for black holes in the scene. Many inflatables and props glow on their own, but the spaces between them often need help.
